Procon GmbH builds the largest “Ludo” game in the world

An XXL-sized classic: The contract was awarded the roundabout way.

And it really was quite a challenge from the very start: The Canadian Primeplay company contacted the Procon GmbH in March 2012 for the installation of shock-absorbing surfacing in the Swabian “Tripsdrill” amusement park – designed like the “Coppit” board game. Two months later, the project was given the go-ahead, however with one alteration: Instead of “Coppit”, the classic “Ludo” was to be created on a 195 m2 surface.
After a first meeting with Helmut Fischer, one of the owners of the amusement park, it became apparent that the elaborate design was not the only hurdle to be cleared. Instead of the standard water-permeable surfacing system, he requested a smooth, smudge-proof and hardly inflammable surface, on which even female visitors with stilettos don’t leave any dents or punctures. Besides, the surface should not be produced in any colour, but in the original Pantone colours of the Schmidt game. Procon manufactures and installs thousands of square metres of shock-absorbing surfacing every year. This combination, however, was new – and a major challenge faced by managing director Reinhard Bojahr and his staff.

In close and intensive co-operation with the laboratories of suppliers of long standing, such as Conica Technik or Melos GmbH, a surface was developed that met all requirements. Even the colours specified by licenser “Schmidt Spiele” could be exactly reproduced. The world-famous lettering and the design were transferred to templates, which were used to apply it in several layers on site. The next challenge awaited Procon GmbH at the amusement park itself: The Primeplay play unit – an almost self-contained construction featuring posts, nets and slides – was already completely installed. Hence the motto was:
Don’t get annoyed! Down on their knees and face down, the Procon employees proved that they do their job with 100 per cent precision even in an unusual position.

And the result is really impressive: Besides a new surface, an unusual play attraction with low-maintenance, permanently safe shock-absorbing surfacing was created – thanks to which Tripsdrill can now call the world’s largest “Ludo” game in the world its own. (www.procon-gmbh.com)
