‘Exercise in the City’ – Programme and registration opportunities published

Sport and games are important and integral components of urban society. They are essential parts of our cultural and social lives, important location factors in today’s society and make a substantial contribution to the quality of life in cities and communities. But sports and games in the city are undergoing change. New places are being created for exercising in public spaces. The important thing is: sport and exercise opportunities must be offered for all generations. Citizens want more exercise and leisure activities in public spaces and at sports and game facilities close to where they live. There is a trend towards more self-organised sport outside the ‘classical’ sports facilities. The topic of ‘preventive health strategies’ is also playing an increasingly important role – for all generations.

The cities and municipalities are asking themselves more and more frequently what sports facilities they need for which users? What will sports centres of the future look like? How can the development of sports facilities be included in integrated plans for city development? What does a exercise-friendly kindergarten or school look like?

These and other questions will be discussed at the seminar ‘Exercise in the City’ on the 14th of November 2018 in Berlin. The event organisers have invited speakers from the sectors of politics, science and planning to talk about the different aspects of this topic and present many innovations and successful reference projects.
