This represents Martin Mere’s most successful summer to date, and a key draw was the new Rushes Play area, a lush playscape which is designed by Timberplay and stocked exclusively with Richter Spielgerӓte equipment.
One of the key features of the new playground is a dedicated water play area, with three innovative water pumps feeding into a circular channel. A Forest Fountain is positioned in the middle, delighting children as water cascades to the pea gravel below. Stephen Harvey, Centre Developments Officer for the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust comments:-
“The design for this play area capitalised exceptionally well on the available space, to create a play area that appeals to children of all ages. We now have a challenging and beautiful setting to complement our site. It has been enormously rewarding working with Timberplay, a company which we believe shares many of WWT’s core values in the way we approach the world and negotiate through it.”
To challenge older children the play area also has a Climbing Forest, a combination of vertical timbers linked with a series of rope walkways, nets and timbers, and a high energy zip wire.
Martin Mere is a nature reserve near Ormskirk in Lancashire which seeks to give families and individuals superb access to nature. The year round attraction includes a beaver lodge, otter enclosure, pond dipping zone and eco garden. The site is a haven for well over 2000 different species of birds, mammals, insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles and mini beasts.
