Mega Zip Line in the Harz Mountains opened

The opening of the longest double zip line in Germany on the Rappbodetalsperre dam in the Harz Mountains (Elbingerode) on 11 November 2012 at 11.11 a.m. was definitely not meant as a carnival joke.

Lying horizontally in a harness designed by the hochkant company in co-operation with the manufacturer, the riders soar headfirst over tree tops, steep slopes and the lake, overall covering a difference of 120 metres in altitude to finally arrive safely at the landing point at the other end of the reservoir.
A special engineering challenge was tensioning the steel cable over such a distance. The cable was fastened with the aid of one of the largest civil transport cargo helicopters in Germany. By means of two special winches, hochkant can adjust the sag and thus counteract climate-induced material changes.
hochkant project leader Stefan Gaßner had the honour of performing the “maiden flight”: “After an intensive planning and construction process it was a great pleasure and reward for me to be privileged to do this job.”
The launch tower was designed to be extensible by adding further attractions, like for example Freefall.
