Olympia stadium Munich now equipped with mobile synthetic turf

The Trofil Sportbodensysteme Company convinces with high quality and a top service performance

The objective of the operators of this historical sports stadium was to install a mobile synthetic turf playing area which, depending on the event on hand, could be quickly disassembled and re-assembled. The solution was also required to have a pleasing appearance and maximum wear resistance as well as being environmentally compatible. Following public tendering of the project, Trofil was finally found as an optimum partner for this project, which was also covered by regulations governing sites of historic interest, and supplied a mobile synthetic turf system for both the running tracks as well as the playing field. Overall, a total of around 18.000 m2 synthetic turf was installed with the four-metre-wide turf strips being installed using special technology, to form a uniform grass carpet. The outside tracks were laid with TROFIL-GREEN Relax, a surface covering which has 196,560 grass stalks per square metre and which, due to its extremely short pile, completely conforms to the optical requirements of a tartan track surface. The football pitch on the other hand, was laid with TROFIL-GREEN Revolution 20 synthetic turf and exhibits very dense and robust surface quality, not least due to its 735,000 fibres per square meter. This surface is practically predestined for footballers using studded boots. The follow-up service by this provider was also a decisive factor for choice of supplier by the operating company of the Olympia stadium and the requirements presented no problem to Trofil. If events are planned in the sports stadium, requiring an asphalt surface as the best alternative, Trofil can disassemble the complete synthetic turf system within 3 – 5 working days. Overall, the complete package offered including quality, service and price, was perfect. “The optic and haptic result completely convinced representatives from cultural heritage, the original architects of the Olympia Park as well as ourselves at the final approval stage,” explained Wasem Ajmail, technical manager of the Olympia Park about the cooperation with Trofil and stated that thanks to this choice of supplier, an equally good economic as well as high-quality synthetic turf solution had been installed.

Inclusive sports and inclusive sports facilities – still a long way to go

Inclusion and inclusive infrastructure design are still very topical issues. On the one hand, this is very positive and shows that people are aware of the issue and also want to promote it. On the other hand, however, it also shows that we are not making as much progress as we would like to and that there are still clear deficits.
