An innovative piece of urban furniture - Standbank
In this age of supermarkets and internet shopping, what significance for social life does a market place still have? Which quality of time do we require for ourselves, where can we relax?
The “Manufaktur Standbank” from Berlin offers an innovative piece of urban furniture which is characterised by multi-purpose use and an original design. The Standbank proves to be the missing link between economy and public interest. With a main use as high-quality seating, the bank can be transformed in only a few minutes into a roofed sales stand or counter. This provides the opportunity to create aesthetically pleasing seating accommodation which is not in the way during official market times and which can be used in a second function as market stall. The simplicity of the design makes its assembly easy and quick, even for inexperienced users, thus providing not only professional traders, seasonal sellers and information stands with the possibility of doing business.
All necessary equipment is kept in a lockable box on the back of the bench. The moveable box is transferred in only a few stages into a sales surface with 3.5 m² and a special sunscreen construction can be fastened to the solid sidepiece of the bench. The range of uses is unlimited – from public areas to private gardens as buffet table. Market places, sport stadiums or beach promenades, in schools, parks, at railway stations - it is now possible to arrange a harmonious picture of sales stalls all of the same type, while doing away with the problems of transport or storage when not in use, as they can then be used as seats.
But that’s not all; the benches can also earn their own money. By renting the market stalls or advertising space on the back of the benches (2x A1 size), the acquisition costs can be quickly recuperated and additional income for the community generated.
