Fair city sharing - what can urban planning contribute?
Our cities have grown over centuries. This also reflects the history of urban society, i.e. who was in charge, which professions were accessible to whom. A city is a multi-layered structure:...

Families usually come to Feldberg all year long and regardless of weather conditions or season. "When I took over the Feldberger Hof it didn't take me long to decide that the main focus of the hotel concept should be on family holidays. The important question in this context is how to keep the hotel attractive for families. The inspiration for the project described below came from Thomas Banhardt, owner of Feldberger Hof and Fundorena. Both the hotel and the indoor sports hall have been systematically designed for families. The Feldberg is the highest mountain of Baden-Wuerttemberg and a real highlight for active families and holidaymakers. After eight months of construction work going on and having invested approximately 6 million euros, the new indoor sports hall called Fundorena is currently the highlight of the family-friendly business concept of the hotelier couple Denise and Thomas Banhardt. Since 1993 they have consistently invested in family-friendly offers at Feldberger Hof. In this region we have plenty of opportunities to provide families with anything they need to spend a beautiful holiday", says Thomas Banhardt. On the basis of this conviction he implements his visionary ideas for family holidays, be it on the basis of almost 20 years of cooperation with the hotel cooperation Familotel, the fact that many children's dreams have come true in the different play areas of the hotel or on the basis of the sustainable hotel development. Feldberger Hof is the first climate-neutral hotel in Germany. It has already obtained three times in succession the award for being "the most family-friendly hotel in Baden-Wuerttemberg" and also received the "OK for KIDS" quality seal for safety excellence from the TÜV Nord technical inspection agency and the German Child Protection League ( Deutscher Kinderschutzbund ) "OK For Kids“. Furthermore, the Feldberger Hof is also economically very successful in specialising in family holidays. The occupancy rate of the 450-bed hotel exceeds 90 per cent counting approximately 125,000 overnight stays. This is an exceptionally large number in the hotel industry.
Unforgettable experiences in all kinds of weather
"We were looking for a thematically matching offer regardless of weather conditions", says Philipp Loose, the Managing Director of Fundorena.
Thomas Banhard, the owner of the family hotel "Feldberger Hof", has come up with something very special to provide his guests with leisure and movement activities, which should not depend on weather conditions: Fundorena, Germany's highest-lying indoor sports and activity hall which is unique in this form and operated by a hotel, was built in one year and is spread over three floors on an overall area of 4,000 sqm.
Fundorena provides the hotel guests and day passengers at Feldberg with completely weather-independent movement and leisure activities.
The three-story indoor play and fun park with a modern structure of fair-faced concrete, glass and timber is a worthwhile alternative to visit in bad weather, on cold spring or wet autumn days.
Besides it is the touristic response to climate change, although Feldberg is a reliable skiing area and usually covered in snow in winter. Operators are the Thoma Action Team company with Gundolf Thoma as owner and Philipp Loose as Managing Direcotor.
"Fundorena provides families with even more unforgettable experiences throughout the whole year." Thomas Banhardt is convinced that joint physical activities and shared fun are important experiences of lasting value. "Fundorena provides recreational fun in various forms."Family fathers know very well how to make a family holiday simply unforgettable.
To struggle together with mum, dad, grandma and grandpa over the Kids Fun Trail, which has specifically been designed for Fundorena, is certainly such a special moment. Also just as unique is Germany's highest indoor high rope course with eight different trails under the roof of Fundorena waiting for guests who are fearless of heights and want to experience a real challenge.
Jumping from the "Freestyle Jump" competition trampolines onto the airbag landing cushion is also an exciting thrill. It needs both courage and self-discipline, but the success and memory of this experience is guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Apart from the indoor high rope course, the artificial ice-skating rink and the riding arena, Fundorena also provides a unique and sensational trampoline landscape over an area of 500 sqm. During a planning phase with tight deadlines, the company Eurotramp GmbH, an Olympic supplier based in Swabian Weilheim Teck developed an individual and target-group specific overall concept for the trampoline area. The project of the children's trampoline landscape is unparalleled in the world and has been designed and implemented in close cooperation with the long-standing partner company Benz Sport of Winnenden in Swabia.
On the "Kids Fun Trail" that is 200 sqm in size, children can let off their steam in a suitable way on a total of 36 different trampolines. Variety is provided by the individual trampoline models with different jump characteristics and multifaceted and varied transitions, including an individual trampoline staircase. The Dodgeball-Arena of 190 sqm size consists of 32 trampoline fields. Apart from just jumping on them, the classical dodge ball game - which is the American term for the popular German indoor ball game called Völkerball - can be played while jumping on them. The ground of the Dodgeball-Arena consists of the before mentioned trampolines. When jumping on them, the ball games obtain a completely new fun factor because it has never been easier to catapult oneself to the height of the basketball hoop simply by jumping.
In the 135 sqm large freestyle area it is possible to jump up to eight metres high on the special high-performance trampolines and to land safely afterwards on a giant air bag. This area provides ideal conditions for dry ski training, indoor snowboarding and skating.
To sum up, for everybody who wants to be physically active in a creative way during „green winters” or in bad weather it is a must to visit Fundorena.
