'Bewegungsplan 2017' – sustainable playground planning; a subject of major interest
This year's 'Bewegungsplan' seminar organised by the publishers Playground + Landscape was held on 4 and 5 April 2017 in the Maritim Hotel am Schlossgarten in Fulda. Some 170 participants took the opportunity to attend the interesting and informative presentations and to take part in the topic-specific workshops. The main theme of the event this year was 'Achieving sustainable quality in the planning of play and exercise spaces' and the programme centred around five different topics. The 16 speakers were able to pass on their experience and expertise to their audience, making a major contribution to the success of the event. A suitable setting for the seminar was provided by the elegance of the venue and the Baroque architecture of Fulda.
Although it may feel as if it was only yesterday that the seminar concept was first launched, this is now the fifth Bewegungsplan event to take place. To the delight of the organisers, it was apparent that a large number of participants had again registered to attend while the preparations had been so thorough that there was no doubt that the programme would be both suitably diverse and engaging.
There were talks and workshops on the subjects of '(Public consultation and) playground planning', 'Playground safety', 'Inclusive playground planning', 'Playground restoration', and 'Planning and financing of exercise trails'. The speakers included landscape architects, urban planners, academics, local authority representatives and safety specialists.
The participants at the Bewegungsplan seminar were able to make their way home again having gained new insights, discovered the latest innovations and chatted with their colleagues present. The organisers of the seminar were able to look back with satisfaction on a successful event that had communicated comprehensive and diverse information on various aspects of play and exercise facilities. They would like to take this opportunity to thank the speakers for their outstanding presentations and also the sponsors of the Bewegungsplan seminar, without whose help the event would not have been possible in this form.
But it is the same again this year ‒ one seminar leads to another. The dates for the sixth annual Bewegungsplan event have already been fixed ‒ 17 and 18 April 2018. More information on this will be available from autumn 2017 while many of the papers presented at this and previous seminars can be found at www.bewegungsplan.org (in German only).
