Pros and cons of the law on noise made by children
At least for residential areas, such comparisons will soon lose their validity. A change to the Federal Pollution Control Act planned by the cabinet stipulates that noise from children’s’ play parks, nurseries and similar establishments in residential areas are not a reason for neighbours to complain. With this step, nursery school operators and local authorities will be granted improved legal protection.
Below is a pro and contra report on the draft bill.
Children are more than pneumatic drills on legs:
Yes to children, but no to the noise they make? What a load of nonsense! Where should nurseries and playgrounds be constructed in order to ensure they don’t disturb anyone then? In an industrial start perhaps? Underground? Or maybe we should just send them straight to the moon?
It goes without saying that children should also be allowed to play in residential areas. After all, they don't do it at midnight, and are really only there until afternoon. I say: those who only see children as pneumatic drills on legs have failed to understand anything. We urgently need children – otherwise society as we know it will collapse in a few decades due to lack of offspring. And our offspring have the right to run and play to their hearts' content outside. Silent children who sit still all day won’t grow into responsible adults.
The decision of the federal government in favour of noise made by children is, therefore, correct. Playing, laughing and happy children – this is the sound of the future. There is no good and bad noise – just noise:
I really couldn't care less who or what causes the noise that disturbs me. Whether it comes from a construction site, cars or noisy children, if a certain volume is exceeded and on top of this, the tones are in the higher frequency range, I don’t want to have to put up with it.
And until now, I've been able to find my home based on this wish: no through road, no school and no nursery nearby – safe to move in. I wouldn’t build a house or rent a flat near motorway interchanges or children’s’ play parks. It’s that simple and it should remain that simple.
If the cabinet changes the noise protection law, I can’t rely on this anymore. I can no longer be sure that no nurseries, playgrounds or sports facilities will be constructed in my neighbourhood. And I won’t ever be safe in the knowledge that a peaceful neighbourhood will stay peaceful. I would still be able to complain about motorway interchanges and road works. But I would simply have to accept this special type of noise, even though the level of disturbance to me personally is the same.
There is no such thing as bad and good noise – there is only noise or peace and quiet.
