2011 will witness the fourth World Play Day throughout Germany, which will take place under the motto ‘Re-discover play areas!’ This motto attempts to convey that there are many more places to play in the cities than just playgrounds, and that children’s’ views of these places today is not the same as that of adults before. In relation to this, the motto will be strengthened by an accompanying campaign entitled 'I want to play here!', with stickers and flags to be provided by the Deutsche Kinderhilfswerk e.V. Child day care facilities and schools, as well as young peoples’ and youth association initiatives and projects, are being called upon to carry out funny and provocative play campaigns to attract publicity.
Children need space and movement in order to ensure healthy physical development and learning. Through playing, they learn motor skills and acquire social competence. In a society with ever-decreasing numbers of children and demanding requirements of older generations, people demonstrate less understanding for noisy games. Through the World Play Day, the Deutsche Kinderhilfswerk e.V (German Children’s’ Fund) aims to unite with its partners in the ‘Right to Play Alliance’ to raise awareness of the importance of playing for children, whilst encouraging more acceptance for children at play.
In this respect, we recommend having a look at the guidelines again (http://www.recht-auf-spiel.de/site/alle-downloads/weltspieltag/2009/52-handreichung). Project entries and material orders should be possible via the following link from March onwards: (http://www.recht-auf-spiel.

The World Play Day is a campaign day to help children and young people to raise awareness of their right to play. Throughout the German-speaking countries, this day will witness numerous extraordinary, eye-catching play campaigns outside, in unusual places and forgotten play parks, and it just might get noisy. Campaigns will not only be held in the cities and urban areas, but also in more rural locations throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Anyone can start a campaign and participation in the campaigns is open to everyone. Additional information: http://www.recht-auf-spiel.de/site/weltspieltag
