In the competition between locations, great importance lies with the layout and design of public areas. Green areas and parks in particular ensure a better quality of life in the town and offer an appealing living environment.
The international trade fair for urban planning and public design has it all: In addition to the topics public design, urban planning, town greening and town and regional planning, the trade fair offers, among other things, the ÖPP-Konferenz des nordrhein-westfälischen Wirtschaftsministeriums (PPP Conference of the Ministry of Economics of North Rhine-Westphalia), the special exhibition Public Light, as well as various workshops and podium discussions involving high-ranking participants centred on current municipal concerns.
In a series of lectures by the Federation of German Landscape Architects, Dipl.-Ing. Friedhelm Terfrüchte and Dipl.-Ing. Peter Davids, owner of the Davids – Terfrüchte + Partner agency, are presenting two projects that will be realised within the framework of the Emscher Kunst 2010 cultural capital project. This is how, on the site of the now closed purification plant in Bernemündung in Bottrop, which has been added to the listed buildings register, a landscape work of art was created in the guise of a park for the population. In addition to this, the Kaisergarten in Oberhausen received new leisure facilities in the course of a general restoration.
The Zentralverband Gartenbau e. V. (ZVG) (Central Horticultural Association) is also promoting the need for more green areas and a better quality of life in the town. The way in which towns and communities can advance this goal through urban planning competitions in conjunction with committed and enthusiastic citizens is perfectly illustrated by Viola Krug-Gbur, Project Management at Entente Florale Deutschland, and Hildegrunde Henrich, Jury Member at Entente Florale Deutschland.
In further lectures, visitors to the trade fair receive stimuli and suggestions in the various areas of responsibility of their jobs, such as municipal development policy, energy supply and climate protection, new systems for street lighting or public-private partnerships for the financing of infrastructure projects. The tight network with the neighbouring Public IT, the new trade fair for municipal IT solutions and services, is an additional bonus for visitors: With one ticket you can make use of the entire offer.
