The manufacture of playground equipment in Eastern Germany to West German standards was an idea typical of the times around 1990.
No sooner said than done, "Spiel-Bau" was born. The consultant helping us with the foundation work assured us that we couldn't anticipate what we were letting ourselves in for - but to 'go ahead' anyway! The Spiel-Bau corporate identity, with which we are recognisable in the market, was developed in 1991. We have taken the date of June 24th as the foundation date for the company. All following products and design developments are based on the basic design. The MIKADO Design continues to enjoy enormous success today and examples of other designs developed by us are the idea of playground equipment in the shape of large letters and numbers (Bespielbaren Buchstaben) or play programmes like "City of the Future" (STADT der ZUKUNFT). Not to be forgotten our "Lümmelbalken" which provide a place to sit almost like a fence. In 2009 we brought out the "Lucy and the Flowers" series for small children and further development projects are in the pipeline.
In 1993 we attended the FSB trade fair in Cologne and presented our products with stainless steel posts as an alternative to wooden posts. This new idea attracted a lot of attention and interest - but did not sell. A good example of Zeitgeist! Today a playground without this kind of equipment is unthinkable. Time has shown us that our designs were right! For a long time now we have not been the only company to manufacture this kind of children's playground equipment - but we still have the honour of having been the first. Continuous product development as well as permanent work on design and technical solutions have brought us further. We now deliver to 15 countries and the export share is growing steadily.
What differentiates us from the others, what is better? Customers appreciate the Spiel-Bau design, the up to 15-years guarantee on our playground equipment and that we are very approachable - you can talk to us!
We have a very good location for our headquarters at Brandenburg in Germany. We are currently preparing to build a new production site planned for 2012. Our team is highly motivated, our quality levels are high and sales are developing in a pleasing way - we intend tackling the next 20 years and are looking to the future with confidence. Many thanks to all those who have help us along the way.
