Five new Timberplay sites enhance Boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham

Photo

Timberplay have been awarded the contract to design and install the new play spaces after going through a rigorous tendering procedure. Initially they had to complete an ESPO Design Competition and then satisfy a number of criteria, including ‘Quality of the Design’, ‘Value for Money’ and ‘How the submitted design responded to the Site’. Frances Basham, Play Development Officer for the Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, comments on this project: “The Consultation Process for this project included canvassing the opinions of the Borough’s children who were asked to make models of the kind of equipment they wanted to see in the playground. Climbing structures were extremely popular, and a number of the models actually looked like products from the Timberplay Brochure.” As a result four out of the five sites have bespoke climbing equipment as their centre pieces that include a Timberwood Tangle, a large Climbing Forest and Climbing Structures.
This project, which in total has cost around £300,000, has been funded by the
Playbuilder program, developed by the Department for Children, Schools and Families to promote better play provision across the UK.
