Prepare communities for the future

Prime Minister Kretschmann will open the Zukunft Kommune (future of local government) trade fair on 24 April 2012 in Stuttgart.

Inner city areas and green spaces should be maintained, and citizens would like a greater online presence of their administration in terms of information and contact opportunities, and have direct involvement in decisions. Stimuli for the core questions concerning communities will be on hand for mayors, department heads and other community decision-makers on 24 and 25 April 2012 at the Zukunft Kommune trade fair. Two days full of exchanges amongst colleagues and experts on the subject of community needs. More than 40 high-quality presentations and podium discussions as well as three specialised conferences on current topics – Zukunft Kommune offers its trade visitors all this in conjunction with public12 and the Public IT. Prime Minister Kretschmann will officially open the major community event on the first day of the trade fair, Tuesday 24 April 2012 at 10am. In addition, Lord Mayor Professor Stefan Gläser, managing director of the Baden-Württemberg association of German cities and towns, and Head of Department Klaus Tappeser, President of the Wuerttemberg state sports association, will also be present at the grand opening and participate in a subsequent tour of the exhibition.

Ideas and stimuli for challenges facing communities

The trade fair association for community solutions, services and procurement is a platform for exchange and source of inspiration at the same time. Visitors take away new ideas and solutions from their discussions with exhibitors and colleagues as well as the presentations and podium discussions. They can also take advantage of the meet & greet appointments initiated by exhibitors and trade fair association partners to pose concrete questions from their own communities. Questions will be answered by, among others, the Interior Minister, Reinhold Gall; Oswald Metzger, CDU member, or Professor Dr. Franz Pesch from the University of Stuttgart’s institute for the association of cities and towns.

The Baden-Württemberg Ministry for the Economy and Finance is participating in the event’s high-quality programme of presentations with a specialist forum on the subject of “Skilled Workers Procurement – key task in local and regional economic development”. Experts from regional and local economic development, the Federal Labour Office, as well as the Baden-Württemberg association for economic promotion will be communicating new ideas and providing stimuli on how communities can help support businesses recruiting skilled workers.

Conferences tackle burning issues

Representatives from Reutlingen will explain how towns and communities can communicate with their citizens through social media. With over 5,600 ‘fans’, the town can lay claim to being a social media pioneer in Baden-Württemberg. The town’s administration discusses topics such as the construction of a controversial town hall or a new parking idea with its citizens on its Facebook page. Between 11.15am and 1.15pm, visitors to the conference of the Baden-Württemberg media and film company will learn, among other things, how to successfully moderate controversial subjects.

The utilisation of conversion areas is an attractive, albeit expensive, method of reclaiming more space for many communities. The complexities of converting urban industrial areas or wastelands, as well as military conversion areas and the political and administrative challenges they create will be addressed by Baden-Württemberg town representatives between 2:15pm and 4:00pm in the specialist forum ‘Conversion Area Planning.’
