Motion Plan – Plenary Session 2012: Enjoyment – Learning – Playing – Exercise … in public places

On 14 and 15 March 2012, in the Schlosshotel Fulda (Fulda Palace Hotel), the international trade magazine Playground@Landscape is to stage a series of events pertaining to the current topics of playground safety and adult playgrounds.

Playground safety has become an increasingly important issue over the past few years and the development as well as the manufacture of playground have changed decisively. And how, as an operator, are you supposed to act in order not to be grossly negligent in your choice of external examiner? How can you ensure, as an operator, that the service being advertised is being provided? Experts have been tackling these and other questions for years now. Berthold Tempel from TÜV Rheinland Product Safety GmbH finally settled the issue on what actually qualifies someone to be a competent professional for playgrounds and playground equipment, keyword DIN SPEC 161.
Assessor Jur. Ralf Mandernach, at GW-Kommunalversicherung WaG, clarifies the legal aspects relating to children’s playgrounds: “Liability law on playgrounds”.
Prof. Gerd Hamacher has been requested to talk about the topic of parental participation with the planning of children’s playgrounds. Is the enraged citizen expressing himself? Or do such convincing and secure concepts exist?

The adult playground has grown from our altered, everyday exercise behaviour – and forms the second special topic. Studies and analyses have revealed that we need opportunities to make it easier for us to stay fit and healthy and still manage to go about our daily lives.
Rita Mayrhofer discusses the project “Gemma raus!” (lit. Let’s Go Outside) in Vienna. The concise, short title for the project which is in German "Gesundheitsfördernde Mit-Mach-Aktionen für ältere Frauen und Männer in Bewegungsparks" (translates as: health-promoting participatory actions for older men and women in fitness parks). The key question is how the public space is used for this and where measures are needed, so that an increasing number of older people can make use of it.
Landscape architect Norman Riede is to talk about the planning of adult playgrounds – and uses the optimal example from the point of view of landscape architecture.
In the framework of the sustainability strategy, the Hessian State Government – together with the towns of Hanau and Darmstadt, the State Sports Association, the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University Frankfurt, Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences as well as the RheinMain University, as participating project partners – has opened fitness trails for senior citizens. Dr. Catharina Maulbecker-Armstrong / Prof. Dr. Ing. Grit Hottenträger will be the speakers.
