Gymnastics and sport with “kick”

Photo

Under the motto “Gymnastics and sport with ‘kick’” the Institute for Sport Medicine and Prevention at the University of Potsdam in Germany, has created an exercise concept for children of pre-school and infant school age, which has been successfully tested at the Potsdamer kindergarten. Based on this concept and in close coordination with the university, Erhard Sport has created a special assortment of sport equipment for kindergarten and nursery schools and presents the range in a 60-page special catalogue.

The objective of this research project at the University of Potsdam was to optimally support the phase between the 4th and 11th year of age when maximum brain development occurs, through selected training exercises designed to improve the interlinking of the brain structure. In this way, the children are provided with optimum biological conditions for a harmonised, integral development at a high level.

In practical testing of the concept at kindergartens in Potsdam, the project team gained experience regarding the organisational and personnel prerequisites which are necessary in order to provide the children with the maximum exercise possible. The findings of this work have been included in the product range created by Erhard Sport. Jana Magerl from the project team selected suitable products and, together with the product manager Corina Willnat, gathered these to form “exercise worlds”.

The product range on offer from Erhard Sport
Under “Jumping, long, high, agile and quick” or “Swings, ropes and climbs”, sport and play equipment collections are shown, with which the basic exercise experience can be promoted in a playful way. Detailed colours and sizes help to make the right choice: Colours help in understanding how to carry out an exercise and increase the pleasure in the sport activity. For this reason nearly all products are available in the primary and group colours red, green, yellow and blue as well as in a variety of sizes, suitable for all age groups. These start with “Mini” for small children under the age of four, “Midi” for school beginners and “Maxi” for older primary school children.

With the catalogue and the corresponding internet page www.ich-bin-pfiffig.de, Erhard Sport provides a scientifically based selection of sport and play equipment for exercise-oriented kindergarten, nursery and infant school concepts. Kurt Erhard and Jochen Köppl, Managing Directors of Erhard Sport, call on nursery school teachers and parents to: “Get your kindergarten and nursery schools moving and teach the children the exercises that will serve them all their lives. Have faith in the sport experts!”

Inclusive sports and inclusive sports facilities – still a long way to go

Inclusion and inclusive infrastructure design are still very topical issues. On the one hand, this is very positive and shows that people are aware of the issue and also want to promote it. On the other hand, however, it also shows that we are not making as much progress as we would like to and that there are still clear deficits.
